The Tamil Nadu Government has floated a tender to provide modern bicycles along with helmets to students studying in Class 11 in government and government-aided schools across the State.
Under the scheme announced in the State Budget, 5.32 lakh bicycles equipped with features including a provision to carry a drinking water bottle are proposed to be procured. The tender has been issued at an estimated cost of Rs.277 crore.
Bicycle manufacturing companies interested in participating in the tender have been asked to submit their applications by September 28.
According to the tender conditions, the bicycles and accompanying equipment must be supplied in full within 150 days from the date of receipt of the purchase order.
