Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the first serving world leader to cross 100 million followers on Instagram, marking a major digital milestone more than a decade after joining the platform in 2014.
With this achievement, Modi now ranks as the most followed political leader on Instagram, widening his lead over global counterparts.
His follower count is more than double that of United States President Donald Trump, who has around 43 million followers.
Among other leaders, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has about 15 million followers, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva around 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about 11.6 million and Argentine President Javier Milei around 6.4 million. The Prime Minister’s Instagram account features posts on official engagements, international visits, public outreach initiatives, cultural events and personal moments. Political observers say his sustained digital engagement and consistent messaging have helped him connect with a wide and diverse global audience.
The milestone highlights the growing influence of social media in political communication, with Instagram emerging as a key platform for leaders to directly engage with citizens, shape narratives and expand their international visibility.
