Modi becomes only leader to receive top civilian honours from Israel and Palestine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the only world leader to receive the highest civilian honours from both Israel and Palestine, marking a rare diplomatic milestone.
During his historic visit to Israel in 2017, Modi was accorded a warm reception by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The visit marked the first-ever standalone trip to Israel by an Indian Prime Minister.
In 2018, during his visit to Palestine, Modi was conferred the “Grand Collar of the State of Palestine,” the highest civilian award of the Palestinian Authority, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties.
Earlier, Israel had also honoured him with one of its highest distinctions during his engagement with the country’s leadership, underlining India’s balanced diplomatic outreach in West Asia. The twin recognitions are seen as symbolic of India’s independent foreign policy approach and its ability to maintain strong relations with both Israel and Palestine.
