Former India cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been fined Rs 1,000 for overspeeding near his residence in Ranchi.
According to Ranchi traffic police, an e-challan was issued on March 1 after Dhoni’s luxury car was recorded exceeding the permitted speed limit near Birsa Agricultural University on Ring Road.
The violation was captured by automatic surveillance cameras installed in the area.
The fine was imposed under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which deals with penalties for driving at speeds exceeding the prescribed limits.
Traffic police officials said that the city’s surveillance system operates round the clock at major intersections and along the ring road to monitor traffic violations such as overspeeding, signal jumping and other offences.
They added that strict action would be taken against anyone found violating traffic rules, irrespective of their status.
Meanwhile, Dhoni is currently in Chennai training with the Chennai Super Kings squad ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
