A woman from Mumbai who studied homeopathy but allegedly practised allopathic medicine without proper qualification was arrested along with her assistant in Chennai.
Poonam Lalit Sharma, 52, from Maharashtra, was reportedly providing treatment for ear-related ailments and even performing minor procedures using allopathic medicines at a private facility located along the Nungambakkam–Kodambakkam High Road.
Following complaints, officials from the Directorate of Medical and Rural Health Services conducted an inspection and found that she had studied only homeopathy but was offering treatment using allopathic medicines without the required medical qualification.
Based on their findings, a complaint was lodged at the Teynampet Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested Poonam Lalit Sharma and her assistant Shilpa, 44, from Sowcarpet.
During the raid, officials seized injections, tablets and other medicines used for allopathic treatment.
Both the accused were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation.
