Nayinar Nagendran asks govt to set up CETP in Sipcot without delay

BJP state president Nainar Nagendran interacted with the people affected by industrial waste in the Perundurai Sipcot area.
Earlier, he visited the place in the Sipcot where the  Deputy Chief Minister laid  foundation stone for setting up a common effluent treatment plant (CETP).
Later, he told reporters: Initially, the groundwater in this area had a salinity of 13000 tds. It has gradually decreased and is now 2000-1900. The TDS in water suitable for drinking can be up to four hundred. Therefore, safe drinking water should be provided to the people of this area immediately under the Jaljeevan scheme. Initially, the Tamil Nadu government planned to bring a CETP  in this area at a cost of Rs 46 crore. Later, it was increased to Rs 146 crore. The foundation stone for setting up the plant in this area was laid 18 months ago. But the work has not started yet.
The plant should be set up immediately.  The water brought by the people of this area is not fit for drinking. The groundwater in 35 villages has been polluted and the environment has been affected. It is said that cancer is prevalent in this area. People’s health is important. Therefore, we are paying attention to it. In the past, a plan was announced to treat the sewage coming from the Sipcot industrial estate at a cost of Rs 740 crore and transport it to the sea through a pipeline. After that, sewage treatment projects were also announced for this area during the time of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. But the DMK government has not implemented it. As far as the central government is concerned, it is still providing 50 percent subsidy for setting up CETP. Factories come under the control of the state government. Therefore, the central government is ready to help if the state government asks the aid. The Chief Minister is laying the foundation stone for a Sipcot factory in Salem on Nov 7th. The people there should not be affected. According to us, the industry should also grow. People’s welfare should also be protected. People’s lives should be saved. We do not want to do politics on this issue. A case was filed against the people who protested. That too was withdrawn after we protested, he added.
Modakkurichi MLA Dr. Saraswathi, Perundurai MLA Jayakumar, BJP State General Secretary Muruganandam, District Secretary Senthil and many others were present.
