Tamil Nadu ministers reviewed the operations of the assistance centre control room set up at Tamil Nadu House in New Delhi to coordinate relief and rescue efforts for people from the state affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.
Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna, School Education Minister Rajmohan, Agriculture Minister Vinoth and Non-Resident Tamils Welfare Minister K. Thennarasu visited the control room and held discussions with officials on the assistance being provided to those stranded in Nepal.
The ministers reviewed the functioning of the help centre, calls being received, collection of information and coordination of rescue operations. They also held consultations with officials from the Indian Embassy on the ongoing efforts to locate and assist those affected.
Minister Rajmohan said the government had initially estimated that more than 50 people from Tamil Nadu had travelled to Nepal. However, information now indicated that more than 100 people belonging to multiple groups had travelled there.
He said 26 people had been confirmed safe, though communication with them was difficult, while efforts were continuing to locate others. The Tamil Nadu government would coordinate with the Union Government and the Nepalese authorities to provide assistance and ensure that those stranded were brought back at the earliest, he said.
