New ration shop opened in Vediyappanur

A new part-time ration shop was inaugurated at Vediyappanur in Tiruvannamalai taluk to strengthen the Public Distribution System in the district.
District Collector K. Tharpagaraj inaugurated the shop and distributed essential commodities to family card holders. The function was presided over by E.V.V. Kamban, Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Athletics Association.
According to the Collector, the district has 1,142 full-time ration shops, 578 part-time ration shops, eight shops run by women’s self-help groups and three ‘Amudham’ outlets operated by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation under the Public Distribution System through the Cooperative Department. In total, 1,720 ration shops are functioning across the district.
As many as 7,89,750 family card holders are benefiting from the scheme. This includes 6,60,939 rice card holders, 2,907 sugar card holders, 76,869 Antyodaya Anna Yojana rice card holders, 46,640 old age pension rice card holders and 475 Annapurna rice card holders.
Under the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar scheme, 61,558 family card holders aged above 70 and 7,095 differently-abled beneficiaries are receiving essential commodities through doorstep delivery.
In Tiruvannamalai union, 12 cooperative ration shops, including nine full-time and three part-time shops, are functioning under the control of V.T. 645 Vengikal Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Society.
For the newly opened Vediyappanur ration shop, 135 family cards from the full-time cooperative ration shop at Devanandal and 89 family cards from the full-time cooperative ration shop at Adi Annamalai have been transferred, bringing 224 family cards under its jurisdiction. Joint Registrar of Cooperatives Parthiban, District Supply and Consumer Protection Officer Satish Kumar, District Revenue Officer Vinoth and other officials participated in the event.
