A shocking case of brutality has shaken Coimbatore after the mutilated body of a newborn baby was found on the Kalapatti–Veeriyampalayam road under the Kovilpalayam police limits on Thursday.
The infant, believed to be only a few hours old, was discovered with its arms and legs missing, leaving the local residents horrified.
Residents who noticed the body immediately alerted the police. Officers rushed to the spot, recovered the remains and sent them to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
Initial investigations indicate that the baby’s limbs may have been bitten off by stray dogs in the area.
However, police officials have stated that all possibilities are being examined, and no angle has been ruled out.
With no information yet about the baby’s parents or how the newborn ended up on the roadside, the Kovilpalayam police, village administrative officer, and child welfare officials have launched a thorough probe.
Two special teams have been formed to trace the parents and uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The gruesome discovery of the newborn boy, lying in a decomposed state just hours after birth, has sparked shock and anguish across Coimbatore.
Investigations are ongoing.
