Nirmala College for Women (Autonomous) organised a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on “Content Creation in Tamil Wikipedia” at the Sapientia Library to promote the creation of quality Tamil-language digital content and strengthen regional knowledge resources.
The programme was organised by the PG & Research Department of Library and Information Science and the Department of Library in collaboration with Google and the Tamil Wikipedia Community.
The initiative was held under the leadership of Secretary Rev. Sr. Dr. Kulandai Therese, Principal Rev. Sr. Dr. Mary Fabiola and Convenor Rev. Sr. Dr. M. Jaculine Mary.
Resource persons Dr. P. Mariappan, S. Balasubramanian, T. Pournima and G. Sridhar trained faculty members in digital content creation, copyright and open licensing, wiki-editing techniques and knowledge curation for Tamil Wikipedia.
The programme highlighted the vital role of educators in preserving and expanding Tamil knowledge on global open-access platforms.
Faculty members were encouraged to contribute authentic and reliable content to Tamil Wikipedia, helping improve access to regional language resources and preserve Tamil heritage in the digital era.
The organisers said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to digital literacy, knowledge sharing and the promotion of Tamil content through collaborative academic efforts.
