No Leave for Police: DGP

Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election vote counting scheduled for May 4, Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal has directed that no police personnel, from constables to senior officers, should avail leave from May 2 until further orders.
The Assembly elections were conducted in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of around 85 percent. Following the polling, electronic voting machines have been secured at counting centres under round-the-clock surveillance.
With preparations intensifying for the counting process, the DGP has issued strict instructions to ensure full police deployment for security and law and order duties across the State.
However, the order provides exemptions for personnel on essential leave categories, including medical, maternity, childcare and education-related leave.
