Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and National In-charge Nirmal Kumar Surana on Friday said the N.R. Congress–BJP alliance in Puducherry has been finalised, with talks under way to expand the front ahead of the elections.
Nirmal Kumar Surana, along with Puducherry BJP State President Saptagiri V.P. Ramalingam, Speaker R. Selvam, Home Minister A. Namassivayam, and MLAs P.K. Kalyanasundaram and G.N.S. Rajasekhar, called on Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan at Raj Nivas.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Nirmal Kumar Surana said alliance discussions were in progress with the AIADMK, PMK and LJP, and that seat-sharing arrangements were yet to be finalised.
He added that more parties were expected to join the alliance and that discussions were ongoing on the number of seats each party would contest.
He clarified that the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK had been confirmed for Tamil Nadu, while negotiations concerning Puducherry were continuing.
He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Puducherry on March 1 on an official tour and that the BJP would accord him a grand welcome. The meeting with the Lieutenant Governor was held to discuss arrangements for the visit. Referring to earlier developments, he noted that Chief Minister N. Rangasamy had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Karaikal on February 14, and that the N.R. Congress–BJP alliance was confirmed at that time.
