Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) paid a surprise visit to Superstar Rajinikanth at his residence in Chennai on Thursday, ahead of the Deepavali festival.
OPS was accompanied by his son and former MP P. Ravindhranath Kumar during the visit. The duo met Rajinikanth and his wife Latha Rajinikanth at their Poes Garden home and exchanged festive greetings.
Speaking to the media later, O. Panneerselvam said, “I met Rajinikanth out of respect and to personally wish him a happy Diwali.” He clarified that it was purely a courtesy visit with no political significance attached.
Sharing photographs of the meeting on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), P. Ravindhranath wrote, “Today, we met Padma Vibhushan Superstar Rajinikanth and Latha Rajinikanth — the proud icons of Tamil cinema who hold an indelible place in the hearts of people across the world. Along with my father, former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, I visited their residence to offer our Diwali greetings and received their blessings.”
The meeting between the veteran leader and the superstar drew attention in political circles, as both enjoy significant influence in Tamil Nadu’s public sphere. However, sources close to OPS reiterated that the visit was strictly personal and festive in nature.
