The ONGC team from New Delhi won the men’s title, while South Western Railway from Hubli emerged winners in the women’s category at the 60th Men’s and 1st Women’s PSG Trophy All India Basketball Tournament organised by Coimbatore PSG Sports Club.
The five-day tournament, which began on August 26, concluded on Sunday. In the women’s final played at 5 p.m., South Western Railway defeated South Central Railway of Secunderabad 65-54. In the men’s final held at 6.15 p.m., ONGC defeated Rest of Tamil Nadu from Chennai 71-66 to lift the trophy.
In the men’s third-place match, Indian Bank defeated Kerala State Electricity Board 84-71. In the women’s third-place match, Sacred Heart Hospital of Salakkudi defeated Coimbatore District Basketball Team 66-51.
ONGC received Rs.1 lakh and the trophy as winners of the men’s category, while the runners-up Rest of Tamil Nadu received Rs.75,000 and a trophy. Indian Bank and Kerala State Electricity Board received Rs.40,000 and Rs.30,000 respectively.
Rishikesh of Rest of Tamil Nadu was named the best sportsman.
In the women’s category, South Western Railway received Rs.75,000 and the trophy, while South Central Railway received Rs.50,000 and a trophy. Sacred Heart Hospital and Coimbatore District Basketball Team received Rs.25,000 each.
Veeha Reddy of South Central Railway was named the best sportswoman.
Former basketball players who studied at PSG institutions and achieved distinction in the sport, along with students of PSG educational institutions who have excelled at the national level, were also honoured with cash awards.
PSG Institutions Managing Trustee L. Gopalakrishnan attended the prize distribution ceremony, while CRI Pumps Managing Director and Coimbatore District Basketball Association president G. Selvaraj presented the prizes to the winners.
PSG Sports Club president Dr. R. Rudhramurthy and secretary T. Palaniswami made arrangements for the tournament.
