Orphaned siblings to receive jobs, education support – says Minister E.V. Velu

A tragic story of four orphaned siblings from Bhootai village near Sankarapuram has moved the Tamil Nadu government into swift action, promising them job opportunities and continued education support.
Kamalakannan (46), a laborer, passed away on November 14 due to kidney failure. His wife Vasantha had died seven years earlier, leaving their children — Lavanya (24), Reena (21), Rishika (17), and Abinesh (13) — completely alone. The family, too poor to afford funeral expenses, relied on villagers who collected contributions to perform the last rites.
The plight of the family was reported in Dinathanthi, prompting Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to personally call Lavanya, the eldest daughter, to offer comfort and reassurance. “These four children are now the children of our government. We will protect their future,” he shared in a post on social media along with the phone conversation.
Following the CM’s direction, Minister E.V. Velu visited the siblings to provide immediate assistance. He announced:
Lavanya will be offered temporary employment in a government office, with a path toward permanent placement.
Reena will continue her IT studies.
