A woman from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh suffered a painful jaw dislocation after attempting to eat multiple panipuris at once, leading to severe pain and an emergency hospital visit.
The incident occurred when Inkila Devi, a resident of Gauri Kishanpur village near Tadiyapur, visited a roadside panipuri stall in the Auraiya area. Eager to satisfy her craving, she reportedly stuffed several panipuris into her mouth at the same time.
The excessive widening of her mouth caused her jaw to dislocate instantly, leaving her in severe agony. She rushed to the Auraiya District Government Hospital, where doctors attempted to reposition her jaw but were unable to complete the treatment due to limited surgical facilities.
Doctors Manoj Kumar and Shatrughan Sinha explained, “Her jaw dislocated because she opened her mouth too wide while trying to eat many panipuris together. Our hospital lacks advanced jaw-reconstruction facilities, so we advised her to seek treatment at a higher medical centre.” She has now been referred to a specialised facility in Chicholi, Betul district of Madhya Pradesh for further treatment.
Medical experts warned that forcing the mouth open beyond normal limits—even during routine eating—can lead to serious jaw injuries.
