Passenger Beaten Over Food Price Dispute on Train

A disturbing incident on the Andaman Express has sparked outrage after a passenger was allegedly assaulted by catering staff for questioning food overpricing.

The passenger, identified as Nihaal (25) from Madhya Pradesh, was travelling with his family from Katra (Jammu & Kashmir) to Bina (Madhya Pradesh) when the incident occurred in August. During the journey, Nihaal ordered a vegetarian meal priced at Rs 110, but the catering staff demanded Rs 130. When he questioned the discrepancy, a heated argument broke out.

Eyewitnesses said that enraged catering staff allegedly attacked Nihaal with sticks and belts, even as fellow passengers pleaded for them to stop. The altercation occurred while the train was stationed at Jhansi Junction, and several passengers captured the attack on their mobile phones.

The shocking video soon went viral on social media, leading to public outrage over the treatment of passengers and irregularities in catering charges. Following the uproar, North Central Railway officials clarified that the video was from an earlier incident but assured that the matter is under investigation.

Railway officials emphasized that any form of overcharging or violence by onboard catering staff would invite strict disciplinary action. Passengers have been urged to report such incidents through the RailMadad helpline or official complaint portals.

The viral video has reignited debate on railway service accountability and the safety of passengers on long-distance trains.
