Peacock rescued from well by firefighters in Thoothukudi

A peacock that accidentally fell into a deep well was rescued by firefighters following a prompt alert from villagers at Allikulam near Pudukkottai in Thoothukudi district.
According to officials, residents of Allikulam noticed a female peacock trapped inside a well and immediately informed the SIPCOT Fire and Rescue Services Station. Acting swiftly, a fire and rescue team led by Fire Station Officer Karthikeyan rushed to the spot.
The firefighters found that the peacock had fallen into a well about 60 feet deep and was unable to escape. Using ropes and rescue nets, the team carefully retrieved the bird from the well without causing any harm.
After the rescue, the peacock was handed over to Forest Department officials for further care and release into its natural habitat.
Villagers of Allikulam praised the firefighters for their timely and efficient action, noting that the quick response helped save the life of the bird. Fire and Rescue Services officials said such rescue operations are carried out regularly to protect wildlife and ensure public safety in rural areas across Thoothukudi district.
