The Periyar Arivulagam, a grand library and science centre built at an estimated cost of Rs. 300 crore in Coimbatore’s Gandhipuram, is ready for inauguration. Spread across seven acres, the sprawling complex has been decorated with colourful lights ahead of its opening, creating an impressive sight at night.
The project, undertaken by the Public Works Department on land belonging to the Prisons Department, was launched in 2024. The facility covers approximately 1.98 lakh square feet and comprises a ground floor and seven floors, designed to promote education, scientific learning and reading among students and the public.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is scheduled to inaugurate the complex tomorrow at around 11 am. Final preparations for the ceremony are under way.
The complex is divided into two blocks, A and B, and features several facilities designed to attract students and visitors. The ground floor houses a library for persons with disabilities, a modern auditorium with seating for 350 people, and a science centre equipped with scientific instruments.
A planetarium and a space lift facility have also been included to offer visitors an engaging experience of space and astronomy. A reception area and other science-related facilities are part of the complex.
Library sections and science-related facilities have been organised across the floors to ensure convenient access for students and the general public.
With its combination of reading spaces, scientific exhibits and astronomy-related attractions, Periyar Arivulagam is expected to become a major educational and learning centre in Coimbatore.
