A mother and daughter were injured after being attacked by a pet dog in Thopputhurai near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district.
Ramalingam, a resident of the Perumal Temple area in Thopputhurai, said his married daughter had come to visit her parents when the incident occurred. While she was walking along the street, a pet dog from a nearby house suddenly attacked and bit her.
Hearing her screams, her mother rushed to rescue her but was also attacked and bitten by the dog. Both sustained injuries in the incident.
Residents alleged that the dog’s owner did not attempt to restrain the animal and instead remained inside the house during the attack.
Neighbours intervened and rescued the injured women, who were later admitted to the Government Hospital in Vedaranyam for treatment.
A complaint has been lodged with the Vedaranyam police, who have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
CCTV footage of the attack has surfaced and is being widely shared on social media.
