A London-based youth travelled to Kancheepuram at considerable expense to attend the final farewell of his pet dog, which had been treated as a member of his family for more than a decade.
Lokesh, son of retired college professor Palani Raj and his wife Gnan Soundari of Indira Nagar in Ponneri Karai, Kancheepuram, completed his MS in Computer Science and is working and pursuing higher studies in London.
The family had raised a pedigreed dog named Veeru for more than 10 years. Palani Raj and Gnan Soundari treated Veeru like another son, while Lokesh shared a close bond with the dog and regarded it like a younger brother.
After Lokesh left for London for higher studies, his parents continued to live with Veeru. The dog suddenly fell ill and died before it could be taken to a hospital.
The family immediately informed Lokesh about Veeru’s death. Overcome with grief, he decided to return to Kancheepuram from London. He spent several lakh rupees to book an immediate flight and travelled to Chennai before reaching Kancheepuram on Thursday morning to pay his final respects to his beloved pet.
