“Pledge for Pink”: GKNM Hospital Leads the Fight Against Breast Cancer

In observance of World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, GKNM Hospital organized a pledge and awareness event to promote early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
A public awareness camp was held at the Lakshmi Mills Urban Center, where visitors took a pledge to support early diagnosis and prevention. Hundreds of doctors, nurses, and students from GKNM Hospital actively participated, spreading the message of awareness and timely medical attention. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sivanesan, Head of the Oncology Department, highlighted the rising number of breast cancer cases among Indian women. He said early detection greatly increases the chance of recovery and explained that total breast removal is often unnecessary if the disease is identified early. He urged women over 40 to perform regular self-examinations and undergo mammogram screenings every year. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, CEO of GKNM Hospital, along with Dr. G. Manoharan, Chief Medical Officer, and Dr. Santosh, Medical Director – Operations. Doctors, staff, and students of nursing and allied health sciences joined the event, expressing their solidarity with breast cancer patients.  Marking 68 years of service, GKNM Hospital continues to offer advanced cancer care with laparoscopic and robotic surgeries, brachytherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and personalized treatment plans. As part of the awareness drive, the hospital is conducting a free screening camp for women from October 9 to 18, focusing on breast and cervical cancer. The camp runs daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a special mammogram package available on doctors’ recommendation.
GKNM Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to women’s health, urging everyone to prioritize awareness, early screening, and timely treatment to fight breast cancer effectively.
