Poet Erode Tamilanban (92) laid to rest with honour

Veteran Tamil scholar and poet Erode Tamilanban was cremated yesterday with full state and police honours at the Arumbakkam Electric Crematorium.
Erode Tamilanban (92), a highly respected literary figure born in Chennimalai, Erode district, passed away due to age-related ailments on November 22. His body was placed at his residence in Koyambedu, Chennai, for public homage. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and several political leaders paid their final respects.
In a government press release, it was stated that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, after paying homage, directed that Tamilanban be accorded state honours in recognition of his lifelong service to Tamil language and literature.
Yesterday, the poet’s body was taken in a procession from his Koyambedu residence to the Arumbakkam Electric Crematorium. There, in the presence of officials, family members, and admirers, he was cremated with a 30-gun salute and full police honours, marking a dignified farewell to one of Tamil Nadu’s most cherished literary voices.
