Police Rescue Abducted Toddler in 30 Minutes

A two-year-old boy who was abducted near a petty shop at Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi district was rescued within 30 minutes by the police, and the accused couple was arrested.
Police said the child was playing near his grandmother’s petty shop on Keelamalayan Street under the Kulasekarapattinam police station limits when a couple arrived on a two-wheeler and allegedly kidnapped him. The boy’s mother, who was present at the shop, immediately raised an alarm and alerted the police.
Acting swiftly on the information, Sub-Inspector Renuka and Head Constables Ramachandran, Senthilkumar and Jebakumar, who were on patrol duty, launched a search operation. The couple was intercepted near a temple on the Kulasekarapattinam–Tiruchendur road, and the child was safely rescued.
The accused were identified as Lingadurai, 35, and his wife Jayanthi, 33, from Velachery in Chennai. They were taken into custody, and a case has been registered at the Kulasekarapattinam police station.
Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police Madhan commended the police personnel for their prompt action in tracing the accused and rescuing the child within half an hour of the abduction. Further investigation is under way.
