The Pongal festival was celebrated with traditional spirit and enthusiasm at the INFO Institute of Engineering, Kovilpalayam, near Coimbatore.
The celebrations commenced at 10 a.m. with a prayer song, followed by a welcome address delivered by a third-year student. Mrs. M.M.D. Abirami Lingeshwari, Chairperson of the INFO Institute of Engineering, presided over the function.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. N. Kottiswaran highlighted the cultural and agricultural significance of the Pongal festival and extended Pongal greetings to students and staff on behalf of the management. Students of the institution later spoke about the history and importance of the harvest festival.
As part of the celebrations, the heads of various departments received Pongal items from the Principal. Faculty members and students jointly prepared the traditional sweet Pongal, which was first offered to God and later distributed to all staff and students.
Several cultural and traditional events, including Kolam competition, Silambam, traditional dance performances, pot-breaking, tug of war, lucky corner, Valli Kummi and Paraiyattam, added colour and vibrancy to the
celebrations.
