Priests threaten woman and extort cash in Telangana

Four men posing as priests allegedly threatened a woman and extorted money after entering her house in Akunur near Uyyur in Telangana, causing concern among residents.
According to police, the accused, dressed in saffron attire, entered the house of Prasad Rao and approached Mani, who was alone at the time. Claiming to be associated with an ashram, they demanded Rs. 1 lakh for the maintenance of cows.
When Mani expressed inability to pay, the men allegedly threatened to curse and destroy her if she refused. Frightened by the threats, she handed over Rs. 5,000 that was available at home.
During the incident, Mani’s son-in-law, Venkata Sivarama Krishna, who arrived at the house, was also allegedly robbed of Rs. 1,000 by the group.
Following a complaint, Sub-Inspector Subhashini registered a case and arrested the accused. Police are continuing their investigation. The incident has triggered alarm in the locality.
