Five people were injured this evening after two private buses collided head-on at Nedar, a village near Papanasam in Thanjavur district.
One of the buses, carrying more than 20 passengers, was travelling along the Nedar route when it reached a curve on the village road. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another private bus approaching from the opposite direction. The impact caused both buses to plunge into a roadside ditch.
Locals who witnessed the crash immediately alerted the police. A team from the nearby station rushed to the spot, rescued the injured passengers, and sent them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police have begun an investigation to determine whether speeding, driver negligence, or poor road conditions contributed to the accident.
