At least 32 passengers were injured after a private mini bus plunged into a nearly 100-foot gorge near Ooty on Wednesday.
The private mini bus, carrying more than 30 passengers, was travelling from Ooty when the accident occurred in the Manalada area. Police said the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, causing the bus to veer off the road and fall into the deep gorge.
The bus overturned after the fall, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents rushed to the spot on noticing the accident and carried out rescue operations, providing first aid to the injured before the arrival of emergency services.
A total of 32 passengers sustained injuries in the accident, including 17 men, 12 women and three children. All the injured were initially taken to the Palada Primary Health Centre and later referred to the Ooty Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Hospital sources said the condition of a few passengers was critical, while others were stable.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident.
