A public relations camp aimed at ensuring the direct reach of government welfare schemes to rural residents was held at Irumpedu Panchayat in Arani Taluk on Wednesday under the leadership of Tiruvannamalai District Collector K. Tharpagaraj.
The District Collector participated in the camp, inspected exhibition stalls set up by various government departments and interacted with members of the public.
Officials briefed villagers on the objectives, eligibility criteria and benefits of various government schemes and facilitated on-the-spot delivery of services.
Addressing the gathering, Collector K. Tharpagaraj said the primary objective of public relations camps is to bridge the gap between the government and the people by ensuring last-mile delivery of welfare schemes. He said such camps are being organised every month in different taluks of the district to benefit rural communities. He added that the Tamil Nadu government continues to implement several welfare programmes focused on health, livelihood support and social security.
Highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare, the Collector spoke about the HPV vaccination programme aimed at preventing cervical cancer among 14-year-old girls. He said the vaccination is being administered through schools with the support of trained doctors and nurses and that around 15,000 girls in the district are expected to benefit.
He assured parents that the vaccine is safe, thoroughly tested and urged mothers to make full use of the scheme.Later, welfare assistance worth Rs. 27.52 lakh was distributed to 201 beneficiaries through various departments. The Revenue and Disaster Management Department issued free house-site pattas, patta name changes, inheritance certificates, accident relief and death-related financial assistance, old age pension and new electronic family cards.
The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department distributed tarpaulins, sprinkler irrigation equipment and vermicompost beds. Officials from all departments concerned participated in the camp.
