SSVM Vidhan Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mothepalayam near Mettupalayam inaugurated the National Cadet Corps unit, marking a significant initiative to instil discipline, patriotism and social responsibility among students.
The NCC unit was launched under the leadership of S Mohandas, Secretary of SSVM Educational Institutions.
As part of the inaugural intake, 50 students from Classes VIII and IX enrolled as NCC cadets, committing themselves to the ideals of service, leadership and national duty.
Lieutenant Colonel Deepak, Commanding Officer, NCC Unit, Coimbatore 2, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Artillery Battery, attended the function as the chief guest. Addressing the students, he said patriotism and social commitment were not abstract concepts but emotions deeply embedded in human values.
He highlighted that India stands apart for its emphasis on equality, fraternity, dharma and freedom, and said the NCC plays a vital role in nurturing these ideals among young learners.
He further stated that protecting the legacy and sacrifices of ancestors who laid down their lives for the nation is a fundamental duty of every citizen.
The NCC, he added, prepares students to become responsible, disciplined and socially conscious individuals.
The school principal, vice-principal, teachers and students attended the ceremony and welcomed the introduction of the NCC unit, describing it as a milestone in strengthening the institution’s nationalistic spirit and holistic education framework.
