Rahul Gandhi to Campaign in three districts during Chennai visit

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will arrive in Chennai on Saturday for a one-day campaign tour covering Tiruvallur, Ranipet and Tiruchi districts ahead of the Assembly elections.

According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi will depart from New Delhi by a private flight at 8.30 a.m. and is scheduled to land at the Chennai Old Airport at 11.10 a.m. He will then leave by helicopter at 11.30 a.m. for Ponneri in Tiruvallur district.

In Ponneri, he will address a public meeting and campaign in support of Congress candidate Durai Chandrasekhar. He will subsequently travel by helicopter to Sholingur in Ranipet district, where he will campaign for Congress candidate Munirathnam.

Later, Rahul Gandhi will return to Chennai Airport at around 2.30 p.m. and depart by a private aircraft to Tiruchi at 3 p.m. In Thuraiyur constituency, he will campaign in support of Congress candidate M. Lenin.

He is scheduled to leave Tiruchi at 5.40 p.m. and reach New Delhi by 8.20 p.m., completing his one-day visit.

Ahead of the visit, a security review meeting was held at the Chennai airport with officials from Delhi and local authorities. Party sources also indicated that the second phase of Rahul Gandhi’s campaign in Tamil Nadu is expected to commence on April 20.

Efforts are also under way to organise a joint campaign featuring key alliance leaders, though details regarding the venue and schedule are yet to be finalised.
