The Comprehensive Cancer Centre at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) observed Rose Day 2025 with the theme “Puthu Vaazhvu (New Life),” bringing together cancer survivors, caregivers, doctors, and staff in a spirited celebration of courage and recovery.
KMCH has been commemorating Rose Day since 2011 to spread awareness, encourage early detection, and instill hope in patients and their families. The event highlighted that while cancer remains a disease often feared, modern medicine and timely treatment have significantly improved chances of recovery and quality of life.
Doctors emphasized that today’s therapies are far more tolerable than in the past, with reduced side effects allowing patients to undergo treatment with greater comfort and confidence. They also stressed the importance of preventive health measures, early screening, and healthy lifestyle practices in reducing cancer risks.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman and Managing Director of KMCH. In his address, he underlined the role of support groups in giving patients the strength to fight with resilience. Renowned motivational speaker Dr. Jayanthasri Balakrishnan engaged the audience with her dynamic session, lifting the spirits of participants. Dr. M. Dhiwakar, Consultant ENT Head & Neck Surgeon, delivered the welcome address, stressing community support, while Dr. Anand Narayanan, Consultant Radiation Oncologist, spoke about lifestyle changes for better health. Dr. Ramkumar, Consultant Medical Oncologist, delivered the vote of thanks.
A key highlight was the release of a special video created by KMCH’s cancer support group, in which survivors shared their personal journeys of resilience and recovery. Their experiences served as powerful proof that life after cancer is not only possible but meaningful.
The celebrations saw enthusiastic participation from oncology consultants, surgeons, hospital staff, patients, and their families. Most importantly, survivors stood as true ambassadors of the theme “Puthu Vaazhvu (New Life),” demonstrating that adversity can be transformed into hope and a fresh beginning.
