The Rotary Club of Coimbatore East celebrated its Golden Jubilee year’s Governor’s Official Visit (GOV) at the Coimbatore Cosmopolitan Club on Tuesday.
Club President Rtn. Vijay Krishnan R, Secretary Rtn. D. Selva Kumar and Club Service Chair Rtn. P.V. Venkatesh welcomed District Governor Rtn. Chella K. Raghavendran, along with senior district leaders Rtn. T.S.A. Easwaran, Rtn. Dr. N. Senthilkumar and Rtn. V. Sampath Kumar.

As part of the celebrations, the club honoured engineers of the GD Naidu Flyover – Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor Project. Those felicitated included Dr. V. Samuthirakani, Er. V. Agila, Ms. M. Maheswari, Mr. V. Dhurjati Venkata Aruna Kumar and Mr. Damodharan Venkatesh of KNR Constructions, recognising their contribution to a key infrastructure project in the city.
TNSTC frontline employees P. Sasikumar (Driver) and G. Dinesh Kumar (Conductor) of Route 45C were celebrated as “Heroes of the Road” for their timely action that helped save a human life.

In another significant initiative, an MoU was signed between Eera Nanjam, an NGO supporting destitute women—especially the elderly—and the VGM Foundation. Facilitated by Rotary Coimbatore East, the MoU commits annual financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh to the NGO.
District Governor Raghavendran addressed members on Rotary’s key service priorities before the event concluded with a fellowship dinner, marking 50 years of service and community impact.

Earlier in the day, the District Governor visited the Lucky Dog Care Centre in Pannimadai, run by Sheela, who cares for around 50 stray dogs and puppies and routinely rescues accident-injured animals. Rotary East carried out several service activities at the centre, including administering rabies vaccinations with a veterinary team, constructing new enclosures, providing customised collars with each dog’s name and the Rotary logo, and committing a monthly support of Rs. 20,000.
