In a major surgical achievement, doctors at Royal Care Hospital, Coimbatore, successfully removed a 7.5 kg abdominal tumor from a 33-year-old woman from the Nilgiris district, ending her six-month struggle with severe abdominal pain and swelling.
After multiple treatments at other hospitals brought no relief, she was admitted to Royal Care for advanced evaluation. Investigations revealed that all cancer markers were normal, but an MRI scan showed a massive growth measuring 28 x 26 x 17 cm in the abdomen and pelvic region.
A multidisciplinary team comprising Dr. Manikandan (Onco Surgeon), Dr. Vinodha (Obstetrician & Gynecologist), Dr. Muthukumar (Anesthesiologist), and Dr. Annapoorani (Pathologist) performed a complex surgery to remove the tumor. The operation was completed successfully without complications, and the tumor was excised entirely.
frozen section test confirmed that the mass was a Uterine Leiomyoma (fibroid tumor) — a non-cancerous growth. The patient made a smooth recovery and was discharged in stable condition four days after surgery.
Speaking about the case, Dr. K. Madeswaran, Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Care Hospital, stressed the importance of early medical attention. “Women experiencing persistent abdominal pain or bloating should seek timely consultation. After the age of 40, particularly post-menopause, the risk of developing ovarian or uterine fibroids increases. Regular health check-ups and prompt evaluation can help prevent serious complications,” he said.
The successful surgery underscores Royal Care’s expertise in complex medical procedures and highlights the need for women’s health awareness and early intervention.
