Unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 24 lakh was seized during a vehicle check conducted by the Election Flying Squad near CODISSIA under the Singanallur Assembly constituency in Coimbatore district on Tuesday.
The inspection was carried out around noon under the leadership of Deputy Block Development Officer and Election Flying Squad Officer Swaminathan.
During the operation, a vehicle carrying Vishnu Prasad, an employee of a private company from Peedampally, was stopped and searched.
Officials found Rs 24 lakh in cash in the vehicle, which was being transported without valid
documents. The amount was immediately confiscated by the authorities.
The seized cash was handed over to Coimbatore South Deputy Tahsildar Karunanidhi and later forwarded to the Deputy Director of Income Tax for further action.
Income Tax officials are continuing their investigation into Vishnu Prasad in connection with the seized amount.
