Sandal garland protest targets former AIADMK Ministers in Pollachi

Tension prevailed in Pollachi after unidentified persons staged a protest by placing sandal garlands on the portraits of former AIADMK ministers C.V. Shanmugam, Dindigul Srinivasan and M.R. Vijayabaskar.
The protest was reportedly in response to controversial remarks made by the leaders against women. The act of garlanding their portraits with sandals drew attention and triggered political reactions in the area.
Police said the protest was carried out by unknown persons and that efforts are underway to identify those involved.
Following a complaint from AIADMK functionaries, police rushed to the spot and removed the cut-outs displaying the portraits with sandal garlands.
