Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman has strongly condemned the arrest of Karthika, who contested the Dharapuram Assembly by-election as the party’s candidate, alleging political vendetta by the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government.
According to the allegations, Karthika attempted to proceed along the route taken by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during an election campaign supporting TVK candidate Sathyabama in Tiruppur district. After being stopped, she staged a road blockade. Police registered cases against her under three sections relating to the protest and alleged remarks against the Chief
Minister.
Dharapuram police arrested Karthika and her husband, Murugachandrakumar, at their residence in Coimbatore. Seeman alleged that seven NTK members had been arrested in politically motivated cases and demanded their immediate release.
He accused the government of misusing the police for political retaliation and warned that such actions would face resistance. Seeman also questioned the government’s commitment to alternative politics, alleging selective action against opposition
members.
He maintained that NTK workers would not be intimidated by arrests or legal cases and urged the government to release all those detained in connection with the incident.
