Semmozhi Poonga: Hats off to CM

Accepting the request of former Chief Minister Kalaignar, the Union Government issued an order in November 2005 to give the title of Classical Tamil to our mother tongue, adding special significance to it. To celebrate this, Kalaignar invited all the Tamil scholars of the world and announced that a Semmozhi Poonga  would be established in Coimbatore during the World Classical Tamil Conference held in June 2010.
That announcement was shelved for 10 years by those who came to power in 2011. When M.K. Stalin visited Coimbatore on 22.11.2021 after taking charge as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he announced that “The Classical Language Park (Semmozhi Poonga) will be established in Gandhipuram in two phases.” He laid the foundation stone and inaugurated the work the very next month.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today inaugurated this world-class classical park for public use. The park is located in the heart of the city, making it a very special place.
The Classical Park also features various recreational features such as a botanical garden, walkways, solar panels, sculptures, battery-powered vehicles, an open-air gym, a 4,000 square foot indoor model landscape, a children’s playground, an indoor playroom for children, a unique playground for the disabled, an artificial waterfall, and a huge parking lot.
There is no doubt that this Classical Park will become the main entertainment center that brings joy to the people of Coimbatore. Classical Park warmly invites everyone from children to the elderly to enjoy themselves. Not once, not many times. Often… whenever there is time, Classical Park is waiting to entertain everyone.
Not only the people of Coimbatore city, but also those from other districts, other states… and even foreigners. Do not miss a visit to the world-class Classical Park.
