Shashi Tharoor’s son Ishaan laid off from Washington Post

Ishaan Tharoor, son of senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, has been laid off from his position at The Washington Post as part of a large-scale workforce reduction at the American media organisation.
The Washington Post has reportedly laid off close to 300 employees across departments, including Ishaan Tharoor, who had been associated with the newspaper for nearly 12 years. The development comes amid broader restructuring and cost-cutting measures at the publication.
Confirming the development in a social media post, Ishaan Tharoor said he was “heartbroken” by the decision but expressed gratitude for having worked with several editors and reporters during his long tenure. He noted that it had been an honour to collaborate with colleagues who made significant contributions to journalism.
Ishaan recalled that he launched the WorldView column in January 2017 with the aim of helping readers better understand global affairs and America’s role in the world. He said the column went on to build a loyal readership of over five lakh readers over the years.
He also thanked subscribers and readers who regularly followed the column, saying their support meant a great deal to him.
The news has drawn attention in India as it comes at a time when Shashi Tharoor’s recent public praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and certain initiatives of the Union government has triggered criticism and debate within the Congress party.
