The Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association (SIEMA), representing pump and motor manufacturers in the Coimbatore region, has thanked the Tamil Nadu Government for swiftly implementing the 57th GST Council’s decision to abolish the system of roving squads. In a statement, SIEMA said Commissioner of Commercial Taxes S. Nagarajan, IAS, issued Circular No. 12/2026 on October 14, just six days after the GST Council meeting held on October 8. The circular replaces roving squads with intelligence-based flying squads. Welcoming the move, SIEMA said flying squads would not be permitted to roam freely and would remain stationed at the Joint Commissioner (Intelligence) office. Vehicle interception would be allowed only on the basis of specific intelligence recorded in writing through the e-office system and with authorisation from an officer of at least Joint Commissioner rank. The association said the initiative would help protect the interests of micro and small industries. SIEMA president Ma. Sendilkumar expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Minister for Commerce for their support in implementing the decision.
