Six held for stealing costly two-wheelers in Coimbatore

City police arrested six persons, including a minor boy, for allegedly stealing expensive motorcycles from various parts of Coimbatore.
Police said motorcycle thefts had been on the rise in the city, particularly in the Neelikonampalayam area near Singanallur. Following this, Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar ordered the formation of a special team to investigate the cases.
The team examined surveillance camera footage from several parts of the city and identified a gang involved in the thefts. Acting on the leads, police surrounded and apprehended six suspects and brought them to the station for interrogation. During inquiry, the accused were identified as Isakkimuthu from Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district, his sister Isakki, Deepak from Ariyamangalam in Tiruchi, Manoj from Chinnavedampatti in Coimbatore, Parthiban from Tiruchi and a 16-year-old boy.
Police said the group was residing in the Vellakinaru area of Coimbatore and had been targeting costly motorcycles parked in front of houses in areas including Singanallur, Podanur, Alandurai, Annur, Puliyampatti and Periyanaickenpalayam. Eight expensive motorcycles, a knife, a costly mobile phone and a laptop were seized from the accused.
Police later produced the arrested persons before a court and remanded them to judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison. Police said criminal cases were already pending against some of the accused at Peelamedu and Karumathampatti police stations in Coimbatore, Saravanampatti police station and Nanguneri police station in Tirunelveli district, and Ariyamangalam police station in Tiruchi.
