Six Special teams formed to nab culprits in Class 12 student murder

Police have formed six special teams to trace and arrest those responsible for the murder of a Class 12 student whose body was found in a forest area near Kulathur in Thoothukudi district.
According to police sources, the victim was the 17-year-old daughter of Subbaraj, a farmer from Vedanatham North Street near Kulathur. She was studying in Class 12 at the Government Higher Secondary School at Kurukkuchalai and was appearing for the ongoing public examinations.
On the evening of March 10, the student reportedly went to a nearby forest area close to her house and did not return for a long time. Concerned family members later approached the police regarding her disappearance.
A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Vilathikulam All Women Police Station on March 11.
Later that evening, the student’s body was found in the Vedanatham forest area with injuries on her face and other parts of the body. Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, the student’s parents, relatives and local residents staged a road blockade on the Kulathur–Kurukkuchalai road demanding swift action against those responsible.
Thoothukudi District Superintendent of Police Albert John and other officials held talks with the protesters. Vilathikulam MLA G.V. Markandeyan also visited the spot, consoled the family members and assured them that the culprits would be brought to justice. The protest was later withdrawn.
Nellai Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Saravanan said six special teams have been formed to track down the accused. Police have intensified the investigation and are examining CCTV footage and other technical evidence in connection with the case.
The murder of the school student has created shock and tension in the area.
