Six-year-old from Dharapuram scales Everest base camp

A six-year-old schoolgirl from Dharapuram in Tiruppur district has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully trekking to the Everest Base Camp, earning widespread appreciation.
Sanvika, a Class I student of Agaram School, hails from Madathupalayam village and is the daughter of Mohanraj and Selvanayaki.

Encouraged by her father from an early age due to her strong interest in sports and physical activities, she undertook the challenging expedition under his guidance. According to Mohanraj, the trek was part of a plan he had been preparing for the past three years. The duo began their journey on April 3 and completed a 16-day expedition, traveling via New Delhi to reach the Everest Base Camp at an altitude of 5,364 metres.
He said they covered a total trekking distance of around 120 kilometres under extreme weather conditions, with temperatures dropping to minus 15 degrees Celsius. The journey involved severe physical strain, including fatigue, chapped lips and eye irritation, especially during the four days of ascent and descent.
Mohanraj added that his daughter showed keen interest in joining the expedition after watching his preparations, and both underwent necessary training while adhering to safety guidelines before undertaking the trek.

Following her achievement, a felicitation function was organised jointly by the Dharapuram Rotary Club and Agaram School. Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the young achiever, with many hailing her feat as an inspiration for future generations.
