In compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, solid waste from households, commercial establishments, and institutions across Erode district will be collected strictly under four segregated categories, announced District Collector S. Kandhasamy.
According to a press release issued by the Collector:
To ensure environmental protection and efficient waste processing, all waste generators must mandatorily segregate waste at source into four distinct categories before handing it over to sanitation
workers.
Waste Categories & Collection Schedule: Wet Waste (Green Bin): Kitchen waste, food scraps, and organic matter. (Collected Daily) Dry Waste (Blue Bin): Paper, plastic, glass, cardboard, and metal. (Collected Daily) Sanitary Waste (Black Bin): Used sanitary pads, diapers, and hygiene waste. (Collected Daily) Special Care / Domestic Hazardous Waste (Red Bin): Expired medicines, batteries, CFL bulbs, e-waste, and paint containers. (Collected Weekly on
Wednesdays)
Residents must hand over waste strictly in prescribed colour-coded bins or bags to authorized collection staff. Mixed waste will not be accepted. All citizens are requested to comply with the rules, the Collector
stated.
