Someshwara temple halts weddings after spike in divorces

A sudden announcement by the administration of the historic Someshwara Temple in Halasuru (Ulsoor), Bengaluru, has left devotees shocked. The temple, known for conducting weddings for several decades, has declared that it will no longer host marriage ceremonies.
According to the temple management, a rising trend of couples seeking divorce soon after being married at the temple prompted the decision.

Officials said many couples who tied the knot at Someshwara Temple had filed divorce petitions in court in recent years.
The administration explained that families frequently visit the temple seeking marriage documents for legal proceedings, which disrupts daily operations. Priests who officiated the weddings were also being summoned to court in connection with these divorce cases, creating additional difficulties.

“We are unable to give proper attention to devotees coming for darshan when we are repeatedly dragged into legal matters. Therefore, we have decided to stop conducting marriages in the temple,” the administration said.

The issue came to light after someone wrote to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office regarding the decision to halt weddings at the temple. Since then, the announcement has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion.
