A shocking lawsuit has been filed against Qatar Airways after an 85-year-old man allegedly died mid-air when he was served non-vegetarian food despite requesting a vegetarian meal.
The deceased, Dr. Ashoka Jayaweera, a retired cardiologist from Southern California, was traveling from Los Angeles to Colombo on June 30, 2023. The 15-hour flight turned tragic after his pre-booked vegetarian meal was unavailable.
According to the lawsuit, flight attendants informed him that only non-vegetarian food was available and urged him to consume it. Shortly after eating, Dr. Jayaweera began struggling to breathe. Cabin crew immediately administered first aid, but he could not be revived.
His son has filed a lawsuit in the United States, accusing Qatar Airways of negligence and failure to honor meal preferences, which allegedly led to his father’s death.
The airline is yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
