Soorasamharam Celebrated With Devotional Fervour at Marudhamalai Temple

The grand Soorasamharam ceremony, marking the climax of the Kanda Sashti festival, was celebrated with great religious fervour at the renowned Marudhamalai Subramania Swamy Temple in Coimbatore today.
Thousands of devotees thronged the temple to witness the divine enactment of Lord Murugan slaying the demon Soorapadman — a symbolic triumph of good over evil. Loud chants of “Arohara” echoed through the hills as the rituals were performed with traditional splendour.
This year’s Kanda Sashti festival, which began on October 22, featured daily Yagasalai Pujas, Abhishekams, and Thiruveethi Ula processions. The Soorasamharam, regarded as the most auspicious part of the celebrations, drew large crowds of devotees from across Tamil Nadu.
Considering the heavy influx of visitors, the temple administration restricted vehicle entry to the hilltop for two days.
Devotees parked their vehicles at the special parking facility near the Law College and reached the temple via shuttle buses and the stairway.
To ensure smooth conduct of the festival, the temple and district administrations jointly arranged drinking water, parking, bus transport, and medical assistance for devotees.
As the traditional Soorapadman Vadam ritual concluded, devotees fervently offered prayers seeking blessings from Lord Murugan, who is believed to have manifested at Marudhamalai — revered as the seventh abode of the deity.
