SPIC Nagar Higher Secondary School celebrated its 53rd Annual Sports Day with grandeur and high spirits at the school grounds here, showcasing students’ athletic skills and cultural talents.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a disciplined march past in which the Chief Guest, Rahul V Gopal, I.P.S., Assistant Superintendent of Police (Training), Thoothukudi district, received the salute.
He formally inaugurated the sports meet by releasing white pigeons, symbolising peace and sportsmanship. International volleyball player Mangala S Jeyapal of TNEB attended the function as the Guest of Honour.
The event was graced by E Balu, Whole-time Director of SPIC and President of the School, Senthilnayagam, Whole-time Director of Greenstar, T S Premsundar, School Secretary, Radhakrishnan, Headmaster, and members of the School Management Committee.
Student Subburayalu delivered the welcome address, followed by the presentation of the annual sports report, highlighting the outstanding achievements of students in various sporting disciplines.
The school grounds came alive with synchronised mass drills by students of classes six to eight, while children from the primary wing enthusiastically took part in class-wise competitions.
The celebrations featured a vibrant aerobic dance by the girls, thrilling gymnastics and karate demonstrations, and a traditional Tamil folk dance, Oyilattam, which received warm applause from the audience.
Track events drew keen interest, with young athletes displaying determination and competitive spirit.
Addressing the gathering, the distinguished guests encouraged students to build confidence, discipline and teamwork through sports and physical activity.
The programme reached its climax with the prize distribution ceremony, during which winners and achievers were honoured for their performances.
