Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts & Science, Nava India, Coimbatore, felicitated its distinguished alumnus, Rotarian R.S. Maruthi, on assuming office as Rotary District Governor of RI District 3206. The felicitation ceremony, organised jointly by the college management and the Alumni Association, was held at the college auditorium on Tuesday.
Dr. Sundar Ramakrishnan, Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, presided over the function, while Dr. B.L. Shivakumar, Principal and Secretary of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts & Science, graced the occasion.
Dr. Sundar Ramakrishnan honoured Rotarian R.S. Maruthi with a shawl, garland and memento in recognition of his elevation as Rotary District Governor. The institution celebrated the achievements of its alumnus, who has excelled in community service, leadership and public welfare, culminating in his unanimous election as District Governor. He will lead RI District 3206 under the theme “UNITE: Understand Nature, Intervene Thoughtfully and Evolve.”
Associated with the Rotary movement since 2005, Rotarian R.S. Maruthi has made significant contributions through community development initiatives, educational advancement programmes, youth empowerment activities and humanitarian service projects. During his Rotary journey, he has served in several leadership positions, including Club Secretary, Club President, Assistant Governor, District Chair and District Director. His outstanding leadership and service have earned him numerous honours at the district and national levels.
Among his notable achievements are organising a mega marathon involving more than 40,000 participants to promote girls’ education and mobilising nearly ₹10 crore through the Sanjeevini Project during the COVID-19 pandemic to strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
As part of the programme, Dr. B.L. Shivakumar administered the oath of office to the newly elected Student Council members. R. Sangeetha, III B.Com. CA, assumed office as Student Council President, U. Hema Sri, III B.Sc. Computer Science (Cyber Security), as Vice-President, K. Kaviya, II B.Sc. Information Technology, as Secretary, and Rudhra Sharma S., II BCA, as Joint Secretary. The presidents and secretaries of the college’s 39 student clubs also assumed office. The felicitation, held as part of the Student Council Inauguration, underscored the enduring bond between the institution and its alumni while inspiring students to pursue excellence in leadership and community service.
Among those present were Dr. G. Senthil Kumar, Controller of Examinations and President of the Alumni Association, Dr. D. Santhanakrishnan, Head of the Department of B.Com. PA and B.Com. Retail Management and Secretary of the Alumni Association, along with faculty members, alumni and students.
