St. Jude’s Public School emerged overall champion at the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) Zone-B Athletics Meet 2026, securing 355 points and an impressive haul of 128 medals at the two-day championship held at Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore.
Hosted by GD Matriculation Higher Secondary School on July 28 and 29, the meet brought together nearly 700 athletes from 45 CISCE schools across Tamil Nadu. The competitions were conducted under the supervision of officials from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.
St. Jude’s athletes produced a dominant performance, winning 60 gold, 45 silver and 23 bronze medals. The school also created 12 new meet records, with seven set by boys and five by girls.
Among the standout performers were Lokamithran Selvaraj, who set new junior records in the hammer throw and javelin throw, Dhanvanth Raja in the junior 1,500 metres, Kruthick in the junior 5-km walk, Sabarish Pranav Raja in the junior triple jump, Rithvik Rahul in the senior 5-km walk and Vaishnav Sarvin in the senior 110-metre hurdles. In the girls’ events, Sindhu Varshini established a new mark in the sub-junior 80-metre hurdles, Aarathiya and Vivitha Sivakumar excelled in the long jump, while Poorvika rewrote the records in the senior hammer throw and shot put.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Arjun Narendran, four-time consecutive Indian National Touring Car Champion and an alumnus of GD School. A renowned motorsport racer and engineer, he has represented India in the MRF Challenge International Series, secured a podium finish in the X1 Racing League, trained under Formula One coach Rob Wilson and holds a Master’s degree in Management from the University of Bath, United Kingdom. He presented medals and certificates to the winners and encouraged students to pursue excellence in both academics and sports.
Principal Saro Dhanarajan, the school management, teachers and parents congratulated the students for their exceptional performance and record-breaking achievements.
